Should I be worried?!
So Monday I went to my doctor (who’s coincidently named Peyton) to have a complete physical b/c I haven’t had one in years. I got my tetanus shot, which amazingly enough, I didn’t feel at all. Then I went through the routine health questions:
- DOC: “Do you smoke?”
- ME: “No.”
- DOC: “Do you drink?”
- ME: “What specifically?”
- DOC: “Alcohol?”
- ME: “Only when necessary.”
- DOC: “Which is?”
- ME: “A lot.”
You know, the usual doctor/patient repartee… then came the “taking away” of my precious blood, and yes it hurt! Overall, my doctor said I seem to be in good health and they’ll mail my lab tests in a couple days…
Well, it’s a couple days and the results are in! Everything seems to be at there required goal, except for 2… my cholesterol and LDL. The goal for cholesterol is between 0-200 MG/DL and mine is 237. The goal for LDL (low-density lipoprotein) is between 66-130 MG/DL and mine is 175… that’s 45 points higher than recommended!!! According to the info provided by the doc, LDL is the “bad” cholesterol and the more you have, the higher the risk for heart disease… This does NOT make a self-diagnosed hypercondriac feel any better. My heart is literally beating faster now… oh God, I’m one step closer to the light!
What has happened to the days of eating like crap with zero responsibility???!!! I’m going to have to go cold turkey and eat healthy 24/7???!!! Dave Thomas, founder of Wendy’s, is literally spinning in his grave as we speak!
Seriously though, I am going to better my diet… but am I making a big deal over nothing? Please say “yes”.
Love the answer to the drinking question. I always hate when doctors ask that!
God, I know!
